Soldiers’ Sleeping Kits

A few weeks back our man on the ground Vadym, met the Chaplin of the army regiment from his home city Ternopil. The Chaplin explained the many challenges his people face on the front line, including the challenge of getting a good night’s sleep whilst in the trenches.

So together we designed a “Soldiers Sleeping Kit” comprising,

a camp bed,

an insulated sleeping bag,

a powerful torch,

and a power pack to recharge a phone or drone.

With the donations we received here in Northern Ireland, Vadym purchased the items in Ukraine to make up our first 10 kits. Double Click on the image on the right to hear Vadym describe them.

There was a new brigade of recruits getting ready to go east to the front line. We had a tight deadline to get everything bought and delivered in time. Vadym pulled it off and delivered them personally to the men who were ready to leave.

His feedback was that they were impressed by the quality of the products we had bought for them, and that they were grateful.

I pause and reflect on the reality of what is going on. These men and women were getting on with their lives as farmers and builders, right up until their country was invaded last year. They didn’t choose to go to war, but they have chosen to defend their right not to be invaded.

So, if when they lie down to sleep in the next few days and reflect that someone from Ireland cared enough to help them, then I thank God that we can serve.
